1.    Introduction

EMAY Sleep Breathing Monitor is a smart wearable device specially designed to monitor sleep breathing overnight at home. It allows you to monitor your breathing, snoring, sleep duration, sleeping position, and other data in real time. Our advanced AI algorithm will analyze the collected data, and provide comprehensive sleep report to help you better understand your sleep health, and thus improve your quality of sleep.

2.    Setting Up the Device 

1)    Take the face mask and straps out of the box. 
2)    Attach the straps to the left & right holes on the face mask. 
3)    Put on the face mask to cover your nose, and fasten the straps on your ears. 
4)    Adjust the straps to a comfortable tightness, not too loose or not too tight.

                 

3.    Power On / Off


Power On:  
Long press the power button for 3 seconds to turn on the device.  The power indicator and bluetooth indicator will come on, indicating the device has been turned on. The indicators will go off automatically after 10 seconds to save power, while the device remains working. 

Power Off:  
Long press the power buttton for 3 seconds to turn off the device. 

Notes: 
•    The device will not turn off automatically once it is powered on, so please long press its power button for 3 seconds to turn off the device manually after you have finished using it.  
•    Short press (tap) the power button to check the status of the device. If the power indicator and bluetooth indicator come on, that indicates the device is working. 

4.    App Installation 

Install the “EMAY Breathing Monitor” app from the App Store / Google Play Store on your smartphone.  
Or scan below QR code to install the app on your smartphone.

5.    Paring the Device to the App for Monitoring

(1)    Make sure the Bluetooth is turned on in your smartphone or tablet. 
(2)    Launch the EMAY app, fill in your profile and tap “Confirm” button. 

(3)    Power on the device, and put on the face mask correctly & tightly. 

(4)    Tap “Connect” button on the app to start monitoring your breathing in real time.  (Select yes when the app asks for permissions to enable Bluetooth, run in the background, etc.)
 

(5)     The app is now displaying and recording your breathing & snoring pattern in real time. 

(6)     Keep the mask on your face, and the app running constantly by your side during sleeping throughout the night. 

(7)     Tap “Stop” button at the bottom of the app to finish the recording when you wake up in the morning.  The data will be saved in the Home Page. 

Important Notes:  
•    It is required to keep the app running & recording while you are wearing the face mask.  The “REC ●” in the top-left corner of the app indicates the app is recording. 
•    The app is able to run in the background when your phone screen goes off.  However, there is still a small portion of Android phones that might prevent the app from running in the background. So if you found the app stopped recording in the midnight, that could be the cause. Please set your phone screen to be awake constantly overnight to ensure  a complete recording. (Screen timeout: Never).
•    If the face mask came off in the midnight, please put it back on to continue the recording, and fasten the straps.  Make sure the app is still recording. 
•    Due to operating system requirements, a small portion of Android phones might require you to grant the app access to your location. Please grant it in order to use. Our app is designed for offline and local use only, your information and data will be perfectly safe.  

6.    Reviewing / Sharing Data and Report

(1)     When a recording is completed, it will be saved in the Home Page of the app. Tap the data on the list to access to its Details Page.  

(2)     Here you can browse your breathing & snoring graphs by sliding a finger, most importantly, study the highlighted breathing events including Apnea, Hypopnea, Snoring and Artifacts (Invalid Data). The types of events are highlighted in different colors. You can visually see when a specific event happened and how long it lasted.


(3)    Tap the “Report” button in the top-right corner to generate a “Summary Report” or “Event List”.  

(4)    The “Summary Report” contains some key data such as AHI (Apnea-Hypopnea Index) and sleeping position breakdown to evaluate your sleep health and apnea levels. It also contains different graphs so you can have a picture of the event distribution over the night.  Tap “Save” or “Share” button in the top-right corner to save or share the report with your doctor by email. 

(5)    The “Event List” contains all the breathing & snoring events (types, time, during, etc.), you can easily share it with your doctor by email as well.
 

7.    Deleting Data from the App 

(1)    Tap “Edit” button in the Home Page of the app, select multiple data you want, and tap “Delete” button at the bottom. Be reminded that the deleted data can not be recovered. (Reinstalling the app will lose the data as well.)
(2)    You can also select multiple data and tap “Share” button at the bottom to email multiple reports together to your doctor in one time.  

8.    Battery and Recharging 

(1)    Checking the battery level. You can determine the battery level by checking the color of the power indicator on the device. 

A yellow light indicates the device has low battery, and requires charging.


A green light indicates the device has sufficient battery.

Notes: 
•    The battery life of the device is 12 hours, we suggest charging it fully before recording every time to avoid the shutdown in the midnight.  
•    It takes 2 hours to fully charge the device. (Device can not be used while charging.)
•    You can also check the battery level on the App. (Tap “Connect” to get to the real-time display page. )

(2)    The device uses a rechargeable lithium polymer battery. 
(3)    Connect the magnetic charging cable to the USB port to charge the device. 
(4)    The power indicator will flash when the device is charging, and become solid green when it is fully charged.

9.    FAQ

(1)    Does the device have to be connected to the App when recording ? 
Yes, the device must be connected to the App all the time in order to monitor and record your sleep data overnight.  You can also check the data in real time on the app. 

(2)    Does the device have to be connected to the App when I want to review the historical data ? 
No, you can check the previous saved data on the app without connecting the device. 

(3)    Can multiple people use the same device or can I set up multiple users on the app ? 
No, we don’t suggest sharing the device with others for personal hygiene consideration. 

(4)    How does the AHI (Apnea-Hypopnea Index) indicate the levels of sleep apnea ?

(5)    What does the grey background in the breathing graph of the report indicate ? 
It indicates the artifacts (invalid data) caused by the fall of the mask or the loose contact with the mask. Our algorithm will automatically filter out the invalid data when calculating the AHI and other data on the report.                     

(6)    What is the difference between “Duration” and “Valid Time” in the left-top column on the report ? 
•    “Duration” is the total recording time overnight. 
•    “Valid Time” equals “Duration” minus the invalid duration of artifacts. That means the valid time is the actual recording time of useful data. 

(7)    Can the app stay running and recording when the phone screen goes off ? 
Yes, the app is able to run in the background on most of the smartphones in the market.  However, there’s still a small portion of Android phones might compulsively prevent the app from running in the background. So if you found the data recording stopped in the midnight, please go to your phone settings and keep the screen awake constantly. (Screen timeout: Never). 

(8)    Does the power indicator remains on after the device is turned on ? 
No, once the device is turned on, the power indicator and bluetooth indicator will come on for 10 seconds, then go off automatically to save power, while the device remains working. A tap on the power button will light up the indicators for another 10 seconds. 

(9)    How do I know if the device is working ? 
•    The app will display breathing & snoring data in real time with the “REC ●” in the top-left corner when the device is working. 
•    Also a tap on the power button will light up the power indicator & bluetooth indicator on the device when it is working. 

(10) Will the device turn off automatically after the mask comes off my face? 
No, the device will never turn off automatically once powered on. Even the face mask come off in the midnight, the device will continue to operate. You will need to turn off the device manually by long pressing its power button for 3 seconds. 

(11)Can it be used during the day or while exercising ? 
No, we don’t recommend using it during the daytime or exercising. 
The device is specially designed for sleep monitoring overnight. 

10.    Troubleshooting

(1)     The device doesn’t turn on  ? 
Charge the device with the provided USB cable.  If the problem persists, please contact us immediately. 

(2)    Real-time data is not displayed on the app ? 
Please restart the device, and pair with the app again. 
•    How to restart the device ?  Long press the power button for 3 seconds to turn off the device, then turn it on again.
•    How to restart the app ? Close the app from the background process, and open it again, then click “Connect” button on the app. 

(3)    The device can not connect to the app ? 
Restart the device and app, make sure the Bluetooth is turned on in your smartphone. 

11.    Precautions

(1) The ideal operating temperature for the device is 0C~ 25C, and the
storage temperature is-10°c~ 50°C,
(2) Keep the main component away from direct sources of airflow, such
as fans.
(3) Keep the device away from sources of fire or high temperatures (e.g. 
electric heaters, microwaves, ovens, etc.).
(4) Keep the device away from high impact or strong vibration to avoid
damage.
(5) Do not use chemicals, detergents, etc. to clean the device. Keep the
device dry; do not wash it.
(6) Do not attempt to remove or replace the built-in lithium polymer
battery on your own so as to avoid damage.
(7) Do not throw the device into fire to prevent the possibility of an
explosion.
(8) This device is not a toy. Please keep it out of the reach of children to
prevent accidental swallowing or other dangerous incidents.
(9) The device cannot be used while charging.
(10) The adapter or other power output for charging dock must be less
than 5 watts and comply with local safety standards.
(11) Please unplug the special magnetic charging cable as soon as
charging is complete to avoid any potential danger.
(12) Charge the battery within a temperature range of 5°C to 45°C
(13) If you experience any discomfort while using this device, stop using
it immediately.
(14) Read the instructions carefully before using this device.
